small but perfectly formed March 6, 2010 Mr. G. Lonsdale (Lampeter) I've got several slowcooking recipe books and I've checked out quite a few of the books available on the subject. This is my favourite by far - and it's also one of the cheapest! I bought it 4 months ago when I first got my slowcooker and it's provided me with a very helpful introduction to this method of cooking. Although a compact book (about 17cm x 14 cm), it's packed with mouth-watering, reliable recipes - each with a very good photo - and is produced on good quality paper with a slight gloss that makes the book quite durable.
The structure of the book can be seen from the contents page via the See Inside function, but this doesn't show how the recipes are presented. I like the book's practical, consistent layout with the recipe and photo on facing pages. The recipe page has a left hand margin providing summary information (prep time, temp setting, cooking time & number of servings followed by the list of ingredients in metric & imperial), which I find convenient when scanning through the book. The recipe instructions in the main body of the page are clear and concise. There are 103 recipes, virtually all of which offer an alternative variation, thus providing the 200 recipes described in the title. There's a reasonable number of recipes for vegetarians.
I've used my slowcooker mainly for stews and casseroles, which is what I had in mind when I bought it. This book has also encouraged me to have a go at soups, savoury steamed puddings, pot roast chicken and a few desserts, all of which have turned out well. I'm gradually working my way through the recipes, but so far my particular favourites are Kashmiri butter chicken, mushroom & walnut cobbler, tarka dahl with spinach, dum aloo, and mushroom & chestnut pudding.
This is an invaluable little book and at less than 3 quid, it's an absolute bargain!
good slow cooking March 6, 2010 HJK (Gomersal UK) A very good little book. I am not one to slavishly follow recipes but this book give you lots of ideas on how to use your slow cooker to best advantage. There are many good recipes which once used will help you adapt your own old favourites. I like the fact that there is a photo for every recipe - always a good point for me. So far I have only tried savoury dishes but there are many ideas for puddings which I am going to try out soon. If you are only buying one book on the subject then I would recommend this one.
Bargain March 3, 2010 LF1975 (Derbyshire, UK) Great book at a great price. Loads of recipes that I would never have thought possible in a slow cooker!
excellent little book March 3, 2010 Ms. S. E. BURR (Lancaster, U.K.) Being new to using a slow cooker, I was aprehensive about suitable recipes as there were none with the leaflet accompanying the slow cooker I'd bought. I sent for this book from Amazon and immediately became excited about the wide variety of recipes in it - all looked easy and not too much faff before actually setting the cooker off and walking away. My favourite recipe,"Pot-roasted Chicken with Lemon" I have made four times now, including once for my daughter and family - a resounding success with everyone. There are nice, clear colour pictures for each reipte too - I can recommend this book wholeheartedly!

Quite a good book, details short but easy to follow. Have tried some recipes and the results have been very good.
