5 out of 5 stars Little noisy but value for money   September 3, 2010

Item came on time. It makes little noise when used for long time. but its very good and stable.

3 out of 5 stars Solid product - could be better   September 2, 2010

I bought this to back-up all my music, photos and important documents. It works smoothly, with user friendly drag-and-drop facility. I have found it heats up quite a lot when in use, but is virtually silent. It must be plugged in to the mains to use it.

Since buying it, I have also started storing films on it - this is where it is slightly hindered compared to other products on the market. I have found that in order to play the films I have stored on other consoles (i.e. PS3) I have had to re-format it, which has halved it's memory. Considering the 1TB memory is why I bought it, this is a pretty big drawback for me, although I must point out I didn't buy it with this use in mind originally. Nevertheless, this is why I have marked it down a bit.

5 out of 5 stars Love It!!!!!!   September 1, 2010

Ok, I got this a couple of weeks ago and its GREAT!!!!

I wanted it to use with my Sumvision for storing AVI files and photo's. I had to reformat the drive into FAT32 which I had expected after reading several other reviews and it works brilliantly!!!

I have over a couple of hundred movie files and I've lost count of how many music and photo files I have on it and still haven't got close to half filling it......AWESOME!!

If you have movie, music or photo files you need this External Drive, it just works and is nearly silent.

Love this!! can store all more pictures, music and movies on here. It also easily connects to my western digital media player.

Would recommend it to anyone looking to buy one.

As I am writing this review the hard drive is failing, at only around 7 months old and filled with 700 GB of data. 2 days ago it started making a loud clicking noise - the noise you get when a hd has failed. It isn't being recognised by Windows and when I can get it to work it's very slow and still clicking. Ordering a new WD one right now, and will not be touching this one until the new one arrives and hopefully I can save all my files if it doesn't fail completely by then.

For the time I have had this hard drive it has worked very nicely, decent speeds and it looks quite nice. This is a nice hard drive IF it works. However it is not very reliable, I'd expect a hd to last at least 3/4 years with normal usage.

Disappointed and do not recommend.

Look for a more trustworthy model which doesn't have obvious failure issues.
